Life is a process of breaking down and using other matter, and if need be, other life. Therefore, life is aggression, and successful life is successful aggression. Life is the scum of matter, and people are the scum of life. There is nothing but matter, forces, space and time, which together make power. Nothing matters, except what matters to you. Might makes right, and power makes freedom. You are free to do whatever is in your power, and if you want to survive and thrive you had better do whatever is in your interests. If your interests conflict with those of others, let the others pit their power against yours, everyone for theirselves. If your interests coincide with those of others, let them work together with you, and against the rest. We are what we eat, and we eat everything.
All that you really value, and the goodness and truth and beauty of life, have their roots in this apparently barren soil.

Is Man a Machine?
Recently I was with a group of mathematicians and philosophers. One philosopher asked me whether I believed man was a machine. I replied, “Do you really think it makes any difference?” He most earnestly replied, “Of course! To me it is the most important question in philosophy.”
I had the following afterthoughts: I imagine that if my friend finally came to the conclusion that he were a machine, he would be infinitely crestfallen. I think he would think: “My God! How horrible! I am only a machine!” But if I should find out I were a machine, my attitude would be totally different. I would say: “How amazing! I never before realized that machines could be so marvelous!”

Nobody believes humans (or animals) are merely “machines”. If they did murder wouldn’t be a crime nor would animal cruelty.

Meaning they are machines plus?
Nobody buys humans are machines or else there would not be laws around the destruction of said machines. Just like I can take a hammer to my pc right now and there is no law against that. But I can’t take a hammer to you, or to a dog or cat, if I had one, without facing legal repercussions.
So there is something more “special” about these types of machines, humans, and in this country anyway (USA), dogs and cats, than there is about my computer.
What is that? Why is it?

Machines plus isn’t a bad way to put it. There is nothing intrinsically special about humans, but we’re the ones who make the laws and we care about each other (and about animals) so our laws reflect that. We’re a particular type of machine with a strong in-group bias.

I just saw this making the tumblr and facebook rounds:
Stop. You are not a machine. Your natural design does not tolerate 2-4 hours of travel per day, 8-12 hours of slave-labor 5-6 days per week for whatever monetary compensation on 5-6 hours of sleep in a system built on penalistic principle and a life under judgmental surveillance. Like it or not, you are human. Stress, harassment, constant financial worries, fear and sense of inadequacy destroys the health of any human. This is a scientific fact. So why is it that we accept and tolerate a system that in actual reality demands that you erase your needs, and in effect commit a slow joyless suicide for someone elses profit? You have a choice, stop pretending that you don’t.
